Philip was on the desk the afternoon we checked in. He greeted us with a smile and was very friendly. We felt welcomed. ... Richard and wife were very helpful. In their rooms they have a black book filled with history of hotel, places to eat and see. Very well done. ... We didn't have trouble with the steps, but guests should be warned their isn't an elevator. ... Quaint, small, older hotel located pretty central to most everything in London. Easy access from the underground. On a quiet street. Very clean, breakfast food was plentiful and good.

George who worked the afternoon/evening shift at the hotel was extremely helpful and keen to assist in any way that he could. ... As we were a family of 5, we needed 2 cabs to take us to the airport. George (night attendant)went out of his way to instead find a reasonably priced maxi-cab (not easy in London). As it was a new cab company George even physically paid a visit to the cab company the day before our checkout to ensure that our booking was held and would be honoured. ... The Thanet has the best and most plentiful breakfast that I have found in any B & B type accommodation. ... The Thanet is in a great position in a very pretty and comfortable part of London, with easy access to everything. Our room was downstairs which meant less stairs and the only draw back was the slight musty scent in the room, which is very typical of buildings of this age. Staff were extremely helpful and always ready to assist.

Albert, the owner/manager, was very helpful and friendly. He assisted us with our bags and was very accomodating. ... The bedspreads were a little tired, but they and the room were immaculately clean. The owner was exceptionally kind and friendly. By London standards this is a very good value. I would definately stay here again. ... The Thanet is clean, quiet and conveniently located. The owner was very friendly and made us feel as if we were the only guests in the hotel. The building is pretty, but some of the furniture is a bit run down. I have stayed in many London hotels and B&B's and consider this a very good value for the money.

Since I have stayed there several years previously I knew what to expect and received it. ... There was always someone available at all times who could be approached for help. That 'someone' was often the owners, Lynwyn and Richard. Their other employees were equally courteous, friendly, smiling. ... Question 13 is hard to answer. Since I live on a fairly limited income and the Pound to Dollar ratio was very bad, I would not normally spend what comes to over $120.00 per night for a room and breakfast. This especially hits hard because I often travel alone and have to pay extra. ... Great location, wonderful staff, excellent treatment and the rooms were aesthetically pleasing as well as clean.

In general, compared to other major international cities, the cost of London and London vicinity hotel rooms is quite high considering the services and facilities rendered. That being said, the Thanet Hotel was probably a value by London standards. ... Decent breakfasts; relatively comfortable beds; very friendly staff; ideal location to the British Museum, Oxford Street, and the Tube. ... Same as above.

Taken directly to room upon arrival which was super after the long airplane and tube ride--night flight--jet lag ! ... This is not only a beautiful property but it is close to the British Museum , parks at each end of the street, nearby market, tube stations, pizza hut, subway, and Starbucks. ... The difference in price was due to the money exchange rate, the quoted pounds was the same. ... Wide variety of brochure literature regarding things to do while in London in stand in the lobby. This was great. ... Clean, friendly, pleasant environment on a relatively quiet street. Breakfast was delicious and made to order. Shower had excellent water pressure which was appeciated. Richard and his staff were always helpful and friendly.

Due to bad weather, my family's arrival time changed and Albert was very helpful in communicating this to my sister (she was meeting us there). ... Great location. The book in the room gave us valuable tips about where to eat. Speaking of eating, breakfast was delicious! The reading room was very handy since my son went to bed early.

We arrived before the official check-in time and were given immediate access to our room. ... This was our third visit and we will certainly stay at the Thanet again. A hook on the bathroom door was missing but was promptly replaced at our request. There was a broken sash cord on our window, not a major problem in mild weather but could be a problem when it gets colder. ... A friendly small hotel in a perfect location, within easy walking distance of several underground lines. Excellent breakfasts cooked to order. Phone messages are left on a message board on the ground floor and we always got them promptly.

After check out we were allowed to leave our bags in the office, as we were doing sightseeing for the day and did not want to have to take them with us. The staff were very nice and willing to do this for us. ... In a lovely neigborhood, quiet, but not far from an underground station. It was situated in a nice area of London. Easy walking distance to many places, eg the British Museum, Convent Garden and West End.
The only negative was that our room was on the very top floor and as I was travelling with my 10 year old son it was a struggle to get luggage to the room. I did have help with a member of staff on the way up but on booking out the man in the reception office ignored me and it was quite obvious that I needed some help. ... Very convenient location. Bright and pleasant breakfast room. Breakfast was good.Pleasant stay.

Very helpful staff ... Room 1 was very clean and confortable - but the furniture- bedside tables etc needs updating - one of the tables was wonky and this detracts for a very pleasant room. Breakfast was very good and well organised. ... Pleasant and friendly hotel in an ideal location museum, tube and eating places on the doorstep, but also an easy walk to Covent Garden or Soho. Ask for a room at the back as it is really quiet.

Wasn't sure if it was the owner greeting us or not, had heard it was a family hotel with nice people who owned it, but we hardly saw them. While the person who greeted us they had broken english - a bit hard to understand and didn't explain who they were, a smile would have also been nice. ... Tiles falling off in bathroom should be re-afixed properly for asthetic purposes. ... I was not overly impressed with the breakfast staff, rude, un-accommodating and cleaned up when we stood - didn't bother to check if we were coming back to our table or not. What about low-fat options, I had to buy my own low fat margarine, although you seemed not to be the only ones, I found it hard to get it anywhere?!?! ... Clean, ok customer service, if you're not spending a lot of time there it would be ideal, neat, accessable, central.

We found our accommodations to be a bit small and not having the amenities we thought we would have for the price. The English breakfast as always was very good. We have been staying at the Thanet for many many years, but do not think we would go back The room was a bit noisy, we could hear everything in the room above and in the hallways, which got busy quite early. Breakfast ended early and we felt rushed to clear the table. we would have liked to sleep in a bit later at least on the weekends. ... We like the Thanet but we checked other places and felt the price was too high for the accommodations. The people are very helpful and honored all of our requests. ... Friendly, helpful but expensive compared to other places.

Our reception at the Thanet was extremely cordial. Albert, who was on duty at the time of our arrival, carried our bags upstairs, recommended an excellent restaurant, and generally made us feel very welcome. ... We have stayed at several hotels in the Russell Square area. The Thanet was the best, by far. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful, the accommodation comfortable and impeccably clean, the general decor very attractive, and the breakfasts excellent, as was the service. In all, the Thanet lived up to and surpassed our expectations--the latter based on the enthusiastic recommendations of friends who had earlier enjoyed the Thanet's hospitality.
... Again, the arrangements for our departure were handled with relaxed efficiency. A car was booked and arrived on time. No muss, no fuss--as with everything at the Thanet. ... The Thanet has many advantages, not least its location. But most important, at least to me, is its unobtrusive, but very real, efficiency. Everything seems to work as it should, and yet one never feels any sense of strain or tension in the staff. The owners were unfailingly cordial, always ready for a few minutes of conversation, and very helpful in any number of ways--neighborhood restaurant recommendations and advice on transportation to various locations, among them. We would certainly stay at the Thanet again, and hope that we will. As I stated earlier, it is easily the best hotel of its kind that we have found.
