Sight Seeing: Familiar landmarks that are only a stones throw away, some of which you can see from the roof tops of The New England Hotel - that's how central we are! A great way to see the city is via the plentiful London Tours on offer. Personal guide tours are also available.
St Paul's Cathedral: A wren masterpiece - which took 42 years to complete. There have been five churches dedicated to St Paul on this site, the previous one having been destroyed in the Great Fire in 1666. The 365ft-high dome that crowns St Pauls is the second largest in the world, second to only St Peter's in Rome. Wren is buried in the Cathedral, and an inscription above reads ' If you seek his monument, look around'.
Big Ben Clock & Houses of Parliament: This is the Government office. The Stranger's Gallery is open whilst the House sits at certain periods of the day. Tours of the Houses of Parliament are also available. |
Downing Street: No.10 has been at the heart of British politics since 1735, when Sir Robert Walpole made it the Prime Ministerial residence.
Tower Bridge: One of London's most unusual and exciting exhibitions. Guides are available and from the high level walks which link the two towers, one of the most memorable panoramic views of London.
Westminster Abbey: The crowning place for English monarchs and host to many royal occasions. Admission free for Royal Chapels.
Westminster Cathedral: A walk away. The largest and most important Catholic Church in England. Open daily. Admission free.
New Developments: Butler's Wharf - waterside development off the Thames, also houses the Design Museum; Canary Wharf - with its towering presence in the London skyline, making it Britain's tallest building; London Bridge City - with shopping and restaurants complex of Hay's Galleria.
Calendar Events: Enjoy some of London's famous events, some of which take place very close to Victoria. Cinema: For those of you who are movie crazy, there are cinemas galore. You can munch away on popcorn and hot dogs, with Dolby surround sound in a variety of locations, all very close to Victoria. Most of these have eating places nearby.
Restaurants: Variety is the spice of life!! London is renowned for its multi-cultural life and its restaurants certainly reflect this. You can taste cuisine from all over the world in just one exciting city, so you can be guaranteed of plenty to scrumptious food to eat! Ask at reception upon arrival.
Pub grub - traditional English: Discover the traditional English pub - suitably named 'Country Pub' for a traditional pint and to sample some really GOOD English food (1 minute away). It has also had some excellent reviews for it's cooking. This is the place to go if you want to see what real Londoners get up to in their spare time. Also worth a visit is the Orange Brewery, which is 10 minutes on foot, and still brews its own beers and serves good food. |
