We were initially given a room that was extremely small. We wanted a room for 3 people (i double bed, 1 single). When the extra bed was added there was no room to put our suitcases. After we complained, the hotel found us a slightly larger room - it was still small but at least allowed us some room walk through the room.
One other issue: the elevator only rose to the 3d floor; our room was on the 4th floor. It was not fun to haul our suitcases up to the 4th floor, but it was manageable (but would not be appropriate for elderly or someone with bad knees!)
Breakfast each day was pretty good.
...
room situation was worse; breakfast was better than expected
...
the web site should reveal that the elevator only goes to the 3d floor, so guests can request a room on the 3d floor or lower
...
It was clean, friendly and less expensive than many other other hotels. It was very convenient to a small grocery store, money exchanging, and the tube. But one would have to expect small rooms and a climb up the stairs if your room is on the 4th floor.

Room was too small and bed was not comfortable. Was rated a three star hotel I believe but felt like a one-star. Did like the location near Earls Court

Usually i guess customers are complaining over no hot water, at the shower in our room it was nearly impossible to lower the temperature to a comfortable level. After talking to the reception it became better but still not good.

The hotel was great but the mattrasses were very uncomfortable (you could actually feel the springs!). And we had to ask for the heating to be put on (it was october) to be warm enough. The shower wasn't brilliant either (very little water and it took ages for the hot water to come on).

The cleanliness of the rooms were excellent. However, the rooms were too small for the beds within them and you had to stand over the toilet to reach the shower.

Additionally, the state of the descorating was awful - wallpaper hanging off the walls, holes in the walls and the edge to the desk was hanging off.

Rooms were nosiy at night with guests returning to their rooms and shouting down the hallways.

We chose not to eat in the hotel because the dining room was dirty and there was mould over the chairs.

However, I cannot fault the staff who were great and the beds were comfortable.
...
We asked for one room to be reserved for an additonal night and were told that it was ok to leave our luggage in that one room.

However, when we returned in the evening, the staff had not received the message and our luggage had been packed and moved out of the room. We weren't happy about that. Better communciation between staff needed!
...
Great staff. Don't use taxi firm which the hotel calls for you - they are much more expensive than the black cabs

Badly in need of decorating.
...
Ok for the money. Somewhere to rest your head at the end of the day. Don't expect too much.

It was cancelled. We had to wait for a while and then fortunately we got the 5 beded room as agreed. I had cancelled a reservation for one double and one triple for the same period, but this reservation for a 5 bedded room should was confirmed and should have been ok.
...
The carpets were old and dirty. The room was on groundfloor, windows below the street. I suppose that there had been some water problems in the room as it smelled as an old cellar.
...
Nice area, good connection to city & Heathrow. Quite good breakfast. Rooms are nicely decorated but old and partly agly & smelly. Stuff could be more helpful. Reasonable place for a couple of days but not the best one for the whole holiday week.

Comments: the room wasn't at all like those in the pictures on their website, it was a lot smaller- like a single room in which you squeeze up two beds actually-, outdated in general, the wallpaper damaged in different places; the hotel itself was rather old on the inside, noisy, it had a lift though. the dining room was tiny, we had to queue up for getting a seat at breakfast time. thank you.

We need to change room, the staff helped us.
...
The triple room was actually a double rooms with two double beds. We were three friends travelling together and we asked to change room. For the first night we got a room with three beds in the basement. Very noisy because it was cloase to the kitchen and the breakfast room. For the second night we needed to share a double bed. The good location of the hotel and its price are the best parts. Moreover, the receptionist who worked the second day was very polite and helpful! All in all, an OK stay at Lord Jim.

The person at the front desk was curt and immediately demanded payment. I do not believe that one should pay for a service not yet rendered.
...
The pictures on the website reflected a completely different hotel! The room was shabby and rundown. The sheets had hairs on them. The bathroom looked nothing like the pictures. Instead you got a shower that was just about part of the toilet. The room had a strange smell that brought on an asthma attack - someone kept going into my room to open the window in hopes of masking the stench. I was told there was no way they could change my room as they were fully booked.
...
There is no concierge as advertised on the website. The person behind the front desk had a just about no clue on how to get about London - and in fact gave me bad directions that got me horribly lost on the way to the theatre. The pictures of the rooms should be changed to the real ones. The hotel is certainly NOT 3 stars - it should get minus 1 star!

...
A dingy run-down hotel, managed by surly staff who demand money every time they see you (common practise in my country is to pay the hotel when you check out!). The people who provide the continental breakfast (i use the term breakfast loosely) are almost aggressively unfriendly. The 'Continental Breakfast' was nothing more than week old croissants and coffee. The room was cramped and run-down. The sheets were covered in hair. The room had a strange smell. The shower was just about part of the toilet. I would recommend that you stay far away from Lord Jim!

I was disappointed with the Continental breakfast as the bread rolls appeared stale, there were no croissants and the choice of other items of food was poor.

With regards to our room, the door lock was very dodgy making it difficult the get into the room.

I arrived about a half an hour early and the reception and housekeeping staff prepared a room for me right away.
...
While the room was very clean, it was very small and several of the lights in the room didn't work. It was also VERY COLD!!!

Since my check out time was well before I needed to leave for the airport, they were kind enough to keep my luggage for me for an hour or so. However, they do not have a secure luggage storage area.

The place has a sort of dingy, run-down
quality to it ... if I'd seen it before I
booked my stay I probably would have stayed
elsewhere. The rooms are really tiny ... I
know that's common for London bed &
breakfasts but the Web site gave me the
impression that that this was a Hotel with
larger rooms and not the tiny-room, narrow-
hallway sort of place I've stayed at in the
past. Also, the breakfast at the Lord Jim
was lousy -- they didn't even have hot tea
available, just coffee! Ironic, for a visit
to London ...
...
One of those London B&Bs where the rooms are
tiny and the hallways are so narrow you can
hardly get your luggage through. If you're
on a budget you'll probably have to stay at
one of these, but for the price you can
easily find one that's newer, cleaner, and
in better shape than the Lord Jim. And one
that serves a better breakfast, too.

As Londonby.com knows (see your own e-
mail of 25 November), I received 2 different
vouchers as if I'd made 2 reservations and
therefore cancelled the second one
(XLORHX71678504AAAB) according to the
instructions I was given after asking what
to do. When I arrived at the hotel and
showed my first voucher(XLORHX71678504AAAA),
I was told that no hotel room had been
reserved for me. The hotel only knew about
one booking and one cancellation, no matter
that the reservation code on my first
voucher was different from the code on the
second voucher and on the cancellation
receipt for the 'second' reservation. They
(said that they) didn't know about the
message on my cancellation request in which
I had clearly stated that I wanted to book
one room but not two. Fortunately there was
still a room available, but one without
bathroom ensuite.
I could only move into the room I had booked
on Sunday 13th February. Next time I won't
make my reservation online anymore. This
experience has taught me a valuable lesson.
...
Whereas the first room I was given was tiny,
had no hair dryer, and the heating couldn't
be made to work, the pretty room I could
move into on Sunday corresponded to the
description and was what I'd expected to
find.
Accordingly, the first two nights of my stay
were awful, especially since other hotel
guests made a mess of the public bathroom
and used the shower until two o'clock in the
night.
...
I paid 'less than expected' because I wasn't
prepared to pay as much for the room without
the bathroom as for the one I had booked.
...
It's a central, clean and comfortable place
if you get the accommodation you want. But
if you are unlucky, you'll get a freezing
room and have to clean the public bathroom
before you can step into it.

Dear Sirs, the services and facilities listed on web site were available but worse! The room was less than little: a double room seeming smaller than a single room, was quite difficult to stay there in 2 persons, the washbasin was too little, and the pillowcases were not so clean. As for breakfast, they have poor quality breakfast, we always had breakfast outside.

...
In the whole, the accomodation was not worth the price paid.
...
On Web Site should be clearly stated that the rooms are small.
...
For one person could be fine (even if I did not see the single room, I hope is not more little than the double I stayed in, otherwise it would be a disaster!), while for two onwards, no. But it is too expensive as accomodation for what it offers.

In fact i have to answer yes to the question number 4. But with comments. The fist night room did not achieve the minimum standard we were waiting due to the pictures shown on the web site. It was a very small and old double roomo with also a very small and old bathroom. We asked for a room change, wich was possible on teh second night. We felt quite bad because it was late at friday night and we could not do anything. If we had had the opportunity to change hotel we would have done. At least the second night room was ok, in the quality levels we expected.

Also, before arriving to the hotel i recieved an 85,96 Euros charge in my bank account. The concept was, Commerce from the UK. I did not expect this charge. Then i paid my full bill, and untill 10 days later i did not recieve my extra charge back. I would have appreciated an explanation from somebody, explaining why i was charged, and that i would be refunded in case of appearing in the hotel.
