EVENTS
In general:
There is never
a quiet moment in London, with a huge selection of year-round events
taking place. Those that can be viewed for free include the New
Year's Day Parade, the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race, Flora London
Marathon, Notting Hill Carnival and the Lord Mayor's Show .
Changing
the Guard, one of the greatest displays of pageantry, takes
place usually every other day outside Buckingham Palace at 11.30am.
There are also guard changes at Whitehall, St. James's Palace and
Windsor and a number of gun salutes celebrating various royal anniversaries
throughout the year.

- A favourite times of year to be in London is around Christmas
time. Not only are the evenings darker (and cold) but the air is
filled with the smell of chestnuts roasting, the pubs often have
open fires and of course, there are the Christmas lights and windows
on display.

on Regent Street.
On Oxford Street, it's hard to beat Selfridges. And of course, there's
Harrods in Knightsbridge.
