I arrived early, and was welcomed and invited to have a coffee and help myself to the breakfast buffet and make myself at home while the room was being prepared - lovely and unusual hospitality which will never be found in the chain hotels. ... I have only once before stayed at an establishment with this special laid back type of atmosphere. All the staff seem happy to do the kind of work they are doing -it is a great team from all over the world who take pride in their work - whether it is dusting and polishing, or cooking the breakfast. It felt more like I was visiting distant and very nice family. ... Special brand of hospitality - a home from home. ... Dont go if you are expecting the latest in design and every luxury. But if you like clean and pleasant accomodation, in tasteful, if slightly threadbare surroundings, Arran House is the perfect place for your stay. The atmosphere reminds me of going to visit a large family farm where everyone is welcome, rather than an impersonal hotel.

Staff very friendly, helpful and efficient and obviously awaiting our arrival. ... Staff allowed guests to use kitchen facilities in the evening, and organised food and refreshments on the evening on 31 December for guests. ... Allowed guests to leave luggage until departure time. ... Use of kitchen facilities is a bonus as not everyone wants to eat out every evening. ... Extremely good value for money, spotlessly clean and friendly helpful staff.
Good central location and therefore easy access to all parts of London either by walking, underground or buses.

Unbelievably clean room, discreet and quick cleaning personnel - and a special plus for the bed linnen: blinding white and most crispy! Very helpful and co-operative receptionists. It is indeed a most wonderful hotel! ... I would emphasize the cleanliness and the 2 very pleasant gardens, lovely for breakfast or mid-day coffee. I also heard the personnel guiding the guests on their London visiting interests - I didn't need this kind of service, but I noticed it as very helpful. ... Wonderful, friendly, extremely clean little hotel, with 2 small carefully kept wild green gardens. The location is the best for bookshops and libraries (University College London is just across the street, The British Library at 10 minutes walk).

Good first impression. We arrived early in the norning and were welcomed and arrangements made for us to leave our luggage while we went out. ... We will certainly make ARRAN HOUSE HOTEL a venue of preference in London. Really good value for money. The rooms are small but spotless and with all the facilities that u need. Great atmosphere and breakfast was good. ... Have already advised friends that it is a value for money , pleasant place to stay and that I will be going back.

Require cash or traveler's checks only. You may want to highlight this in your listing. ... Excellent English breakfast each morning. Basement room we had in the back for our second visit was wonderful. Top floor double room was cramped and street noise alittle bothersome at times. Would definitely use this hotel again if ever in London a second time. ... Highly recommend. Staff very helpful with questions we had regarding tours, limousine service ( car vs. taxi), bus/underground info. etc. Definitely take advantage of their cab/limo arrangement vs. regular independent cab on street when going to Heathrow or Gatwick airports. Difference is considerable!

Impressed by the prompt change-over of duvets from winter to summer-weight, I think in all of the rooms, after I mentioned to Carrol-Anne having been too warm the first night. Bathroom in our on-suite quad was a pretty hilariously tiny add-on to the corner of our modest-sized room, and the water-temperature in the shower fluctuated almost dangerously from luke-warm to scalding without notice, depending on whether other guests were using their bathrooms, I think; still, not bad to have a bathroom in our room. The two people in our group who had their own basic room (w/o bathroom) actually had a choice of a couple of bathrooms, only about 20 steps away; both of these bathrooms were bigger and better. I'd pick a basic room (but on the back, for quiet, though front rooms do have double-glazing) over an en-suite next time, and in fact preferred to use one of the shared bathrooms over our own once I saw the differences between them. ... Since we had to leave very early, we were happy to have our check-out done at our convenience the previous afternoon, and to have received good, simple arrangements for the morning of our departure about where to leave our keys before staff had arrived for the day. ... All the staff, taking their cue from Carol-Anne, I think, were very warm, friendly, and able to provide helpful answers to typical tourist questions: e.g. where to eat (good recommendations close by), which bus to take (provided map too), etc. Breakfast was generous and good, and good arrangements were made for a cold breakfast for our early check-outbefore the kitchen had opened ... Great location, staff, beds; no elevator; nice lounge with internet access; stay on the back in a basic room, for quietest and best-value visit.

The accomodation was excellent and its' location was superb. Breakfast was superb and I was particularly impressed by the staff, who were always helful and informative. I was in London for a conference but would very much like to return to the Arran House Hotel as a tourist in the future! I have also recommended the holtel to other colleagues within the NHS, as the price was extremely competitive and reasonable.
It made a pleasure out of a neccessary evil! ... Room was superb, and whilst I didn't have ensuite, the toilet and bathroom facilities were perfectly okay. ... I particularly liked being able to leave my luggage there until the conference was over, then it was only a 7 minutes walk to Euston for me. ... No, I think all bases are covered. ... Friendly, attractive and homely.

The room was on the top floor and was quite small for a purported double It was hot and stuffy. A friend who had a true double on the lower floor at the rear (and thus much quieter) paid less than I did for lesser accomodation. Otherwise the staff were kind and helpful ... Wonderful experience with the Arran House Hotel. Breakfast was superb! Especially the sausages. Everyone was very helpful and kind and the rooms were always immaculately clean. ... The receptionist was extremely cordial. ... We were very impressed with the facilities! ... We had an early flight. The receptionist was most helpful in checking us out the evening before and in reserving a cab to pick us up in the morning. ... The spaciousness and cleanliness of the room surpassed our expectations. We had anticipated a continental breakfast but were served a delicious full English breakfast. We still marvel at the small size of London bathrooms, but when they are spotless, as this one was, no one can complain. In fact, I'm amazed at the ingenuity in placing a modern bathroom in such an old building. The extra features such as ample storage for clothes, ceiling fan, and oscillating fan were unexpected. The two gardens out back--one designated as a quiet garden--would be a wonderful place to relax during warmer times of the year. ... If you are seeking a small, friendly, well-furnished and well-maintained hotel in the Bloomsbury area that provides spacious, well-decorated, and extremely clean rooms at a reasonable price, the Arran House Hotel is the place. Many of the guests are young but are very well mannered. The hotel does not have an elevator, so be prepared to climb up and down stairs with luggage, but this adds to the quaint charm of the hotel.

The only thing that could have been better described was the laundry facility has a limited time use. It would have been helpful to know this in advance. ... I had requested a quiet room in the back but was booked into a front room. Re-arrangements were made and I was given a room in back. ... Friendly and helpful staff who go out of their way to provide what you may need. Watch out for group bookings which can make the hotel somewhat noisy. ... I have stayed there twice. The first time was noisy due to college student group bookings. Too much coming and going and banging of doors. Second time, same room, much quieter...a very good stay.

Very friendly, despite being busy with a lot of guests waiting for a room. Directed us to a good place to have lunch while we waited. ... We expected a budget-priced room and found that although it was small, the room was clean and very well maintained. Unfortunately, London was unusually hot during our stay and the heat made our fourth floor room uncomfortable on 2 nights. Upon our return a week later, we were given an upgraded room on the first floor that was much cooler. ... Don't recall all that was on the website. The hotel has no elevator.
The hotel is very convenient to tube and bus lines. You can step outside the hotel, cross the street and pick up a bus straight to Trafalgar Square. The tube is a short walk around two blocks. ... This was a small hotel in an old building a few blocks from the British Museum. The staff is friendly and efficient. The rates are most reasonable. The rooms are small, but clean and well-maintained.
The location is great for catching a bus or the tube. The street is fairly plain, completely lined with attached row houses containing hotels and university offices. There is a large academic bookstore on one corner and a few restaurants a block or so away.
There is a nice breakfast with the same items every morning: scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans, peaches, and various cereals and breads. The chocolate croissants are good.
There is no AC and if the weather is warm, you will need the fans. The rooms are quiet if you keep the windows closed, but if you must open them, then you will hear street traffic day and night. It is not incessant noise, but the hotel is on a one-way street that serves as a bus line, and so you get a fair amount of traffic. The motorcyles are the worst as they roar by at night.
The bathrooms are what you would expect in a European hotel, showers and water closets off the hallway. Some were cramped but a few were reasonable in size. Some rooms had their own facilities.
We were looking for a budget-priced room for a family of five persons in a convenient location. This is hard to find in London and so we were delighted to find this place.

The closest bathroom needs upgrading, shower especially. Shower room on other landing very good. Breakfast good though no fresh fruit. Friendly staff Would stay again ... Number of rooms to each shared bathroom, I had to wait on the stairs one morning. ... Good accommodation if you are okay about a shared bathroom

We were given the room key & directions to the room. staff could be somewhat more assistance by showing/explaining the room's workings....particularly the (closet) toilet. ... As I'm sure other Americans have commented, for the price (room w/toilet, micro-toilet/shower at 85 BP per day incl. a fair breakfast), we will advise others going to London to spend more time searching other options that we understand are somewhat better value for that price range. ... mention/photograph the breakfast area. Describe it as a comfortable, small room in the basement with very basic food.
Show photographs of the mini-closet bathrooms so people who care understand in advance what level to expect ... basic, well located, small accomodations remodeled from a walk-up apartment with a basic breakfast area serving basic food down in a basement and (like much of London) very pricey when compared to N.Y. city places of similar in-town location and price.

Lobby area was nice and pretty, with flowers etc. Staff efficient and polite. ... We checked out for a weekend but were able to leave most of our luggage stored securely at Arran House until we returned to check-in again, at no extra cost. This saved us a lot of hassle! En suite bathroom was pretty small(but clean). Breakfasts were delicious. ... We were able to leave our luggage there all day after checkout until we left for the airport. They organised us a (cheap) taxi to the airport as well. ... Has no lift (normally fine to walk up 4 flights of stairs, but a bit of pain on the night we arrived and had to haul full suitcases up 4 storeys). ... Really convenient place to stay in central London. Close to at least 3 tube stations, lots of restaurants and pubs within 5 minute walk. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. Breakfast was great. Also useful - guests could use the in-house laundry facilities in the evening, and were allowed to use the kitchen area (microwave etc) in the evening.
